Additional Info

The primary research interests of Dr. Roberto De Giorgio focus on gastrointestinal neurology and neuropathophysiology with primary emphasis to severe dysmotility disorders and functional digestive syndromes. Dr. De Giorgio started his scientific career in 1989 after he completed his residency (under the mentorship of Prof. R. Corinaldesi and V. Stanghellini) in Internal Medicine and was awarded with a post-doctoral fellowship at CURE/Digestive Disease Center, UCLA School of Medicine, Los Angeles, California, USA. At CURE/UCLA, Dr. De Giorgio held a post-doctoral fellowship/senior assistant physiologist position with a great exposure to morphological and functional techniques used to examine the intrinsic innervation of the gut, i.e. the enteric nervous system. In 1993, he moved back to Italy where he accomplished his scientific interests by exploiting the experience developed in the US. As a result, he succeeded in equipping a laboratory for tissue analysis and morpho-functional assessment of gut motor disorders. Currently, Dr. De Giorgio’s experience is well established in the field of Neurogastroenterology, particularly in gut neuropathology. He is one of the PIs at CRBA since 2000 and helps to maintain the multidisciplinary research commitment of that center. Dr. De Giorgio is member of several national and international Societies and Journals’ scientific boards (e.g., Neurogastroenterology and Motility) as well as author and co-authors of several peer-review articles.
